Flora Hall English Bitter Kit, Off-Flavour Workshop, and Escarpment Pre-Order

Beer Grains Avatar

There’s a lot happening at Beer Grains this month — a brand-new collaboration recipe kit, an educational workshop with some of our favourite local partners, and a fresh Escarpment Labs yeast pre-order with a few exciting new strains.

New Recipe Kit: Flora Hall English Ordinary Bitter

We’re excited to announce a new recipe kit that’s sure to be a popular one. Thanks to the great folks over at Flora Hall, you can now brew their English Ordinary Bitter at home.

Flora has also agreed to share the full recipe — ingredients and amounts — so you can drop it straight into your brewing software, adjust for your system’s efficiency, and then import that adjusted recipe through our Recipe Builder.

Off-Flavour Workshop — September 19

Have you ever detected something off in your beer and weren’t sure what it was?

On September 19th, Beer Grains is partnering with the OHBS and Nita Beer Company to host an off-flavour workshop. In this workshop we’ll take some of Nita’s awesome beer and spike it with nasty off-flavours. Why? For education, of course.

We’ll sample six of the most common off-flavours that occur in homebrewing, discuss what causes them, and cover how to avoid them in future brews.

  • Saturday, September 19th
  • 4:30 – 7:00 PM
  • Nita Beer Company @ 190 Colonnade Rd

Escarpment Labs Yeast Pre-Order

The next round of the Homebrew Pre-Order is now open until Thursday, August 20th, and Escarpment has added a few new yeasts to their rotating seasonal selections this time:

  • 34/70 — this famous lager strain is now available in liquid format from Escarpment Labs.
  • Yorkshire — the Yorkshire strain from La Labo produces balanced beers with stone fruit and strawberry aromas created during fermentation.
  • Fruity Wit — this popular strain from the spring cycle is back and available to order.

In addition, short-dated yeast is now highlighted on the website for a discount. If you’re brewing soon and want to save a few dollars, look for the short-dated versions of your Escarpment favourites.
