Description
The legendary water of Burton-on-Trent, England is known for extremely high sulfate levels that sharpen hop bitterness to a razor edge and produce the famously dry, minerally finish of classic English IPAs and pale ales. This larger-format packet recreates that assertive mineral profile, transforming RO or distilled water into a true Burton-style base.
Developed in collaboration with Colin Kaminski, co-author of Water: A Comprehensive Guide for Brewers.
Best for: English IPA, British bitter, English pale ale, Burton ale
Profile: Very high sulfate; elevated calcium; moderate magnesium; low chloride
Replicates: Burton-on-Trent, England (historic Trent Valley well water)
Packet size: 18.5 g (larger than other varieties due to higher mineral load), treats 6 gallons (23 L) of RO, DI, or distilled water
For larger batches: add 3 g per additional gallon
Not recommended for extract brewing. Designed for all-grain mashing.
